About Michelle Salater

Michelle Salater is an award-winning freelance writer and owner of Michelle Salater Writing & Editorial, Inc., a copywriting company specializing in writing marketing materials for small to midsized businesses.

Michelle Salater, Travel Writing and Editorial ServicesAfter spending the better part of her 20s traveling the globe—from the cloud forests of Montverde, Costa Rica, to a Roma refugee camp in Shutka, Macedonia—Michelle decided to marry her love for travel and writing, and began a freelance travel-writing career. When she wasn’t in front of the computer, she traveled the globe in search of her next story, exploring the alleyways of Barcelona, gazing at giraffes on the Serengeti, and eating her way through a French Caribbean island.

Throughout the years, Michelle took numerous copywriting jobs, from grant writing in Kosovo to brochure writing for local companies. In early 2007, after returning from a conference in Kenya and unable to contain her entrepreneurial spirit any longer, she made the leap and started her own copywriting company. Within months of launching her website, she had a steady flow of clientele.

Michelle’s clients benefit from her five-year experience as a freelance writer and her dedication to each client’s success. With an understanding of the business world, marketing strategies, and magazine publication, she offers a variety of services that address each client’s marketing needs. Her goal is to provide result-oriented copy, including web copy, ezines and newsletters, sales letters, ghostwritten articles, along with other marketing materials such as brochures, postcards, and email marketing.

As a freelance writer, Michelle contributed travel articles to St. Louis Magazine, Missouri Life, Transitions Abroad, International Living, and 5757 Palm among others. She is the former managing editor for artD Magazine and served as the editor of the Missouri Fox newsletter. Michelle is also the author of the upcoming book Charleston: A Photographic Portrait (Twin Lights Publishers), which is scheduled to appear late spring 2008.

Michelle was the recipient of the 2005 Missouri Writers' Guild honorable mention for Best Feature Article, and her short fiction has been nominated for the Best New American Voices Series. In 2006, she was named semifinalist in the 2006 Summer Literary Seminar Contest for her short story "Somewhere in the Middle of America." In 2005, she was a writer-in-residence at Dairy Hollow Writers' Colony in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

She holds a BA from Washington University in St. Louis and an MFA in Creative Writing from Queens University of Charlotte. She resides in Charleston, South Carolina, with Mama Mia, a gorgeous dog she rescued from St. John, US Virgin Islands.
